Hoax bomb threat e-mails sent to Noida schools trigger panic

Multiple schools across Gautam Buddha Nagar district in Noida received bomb threats on Friday that later turned out to be hoaxes, the police said.

Issued via e-mails just three days ahead of Republic Day, the threats prompted an immediate security response. Senior officers and local police teams rushed to the schools along with fire services, dog squads, and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) units, and conducted thorough searches of the premises, the police said.

While campuses were being checked, students were evacuated and the schools were closed. “Many institutions were already closed due to rain and Basant Panchami. However, we are in constant touch with major schools in the area and are checking them,” the police said.

“So far, nothing suspicious has been found at any of the schools. We have examined the e-mails and the cyber team is carrying out a technical investigation. The situation is normal and people should not pay attention to rumours,” said Rajeev Narain Mishra, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Gautam Buddha Nagar.
