Secondary grade teachers continued their protest for the fifth day on Tuesday to demand equal pay for equal work. Staging their protest at the Regional Education Officer office at Egmore in the city, they demanded that the government concede their demand.
During the protest organised by the Secondary Grade Seniority Teachers’ Association (SSTA), over 1,000 teachers were detained by the police. The teachers asserted that the protests would continue until their demand was met. The State government and the School Education department are yet to respond to teachers’ protests.
