South Western Railway (SWR) General Manager Mukul Saran Mathur on Friday, November 14, assured the addressal of passengers’ grievances in Dakshina Kannada, including expediting development works at Subrahmanya Road Station (SBHR), as aired by representatives of passengers’ associations.

Mr. Mathur was conducting a comprehensive inspection of SBHR to review the progress of Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) work. Kadaba Taluk Railway Station Abhivriddhi Horata Samithi President Prasad K.G. Nettana and Kukke Shree Subrahmanya-Mangaluru Railway Commuters Forum Convener Sudarshan Puttur listed out passengers’ grievances and shortcomings in station development work before Mr. Mathur, Mysuru Divisional Railway Manager Mudit Mittal, and other senior officers.

They said there was enormous delay of over a year in completing the ABSS works even as the dumped construction material in station premises affected passengers’ movement. They showed him the men’s and women’s restrooms that did not have doors and also the unhygienic conditions inside them. The representatives also urged Mr. Mukul to clear the staff quarters which were affecting the widening of the approach road to the station and sought dedicated autorickshaw and taxi stands.

Mr. Puttur and Mr. Nettana also urged the officials to provide adequate platform shelters at Kabaka Puttur Railway Station while questioning the rationale of the Divisional Railway Manager in allotting the VIP waiting room to the Railway Protection Force. The officials promised to look into the grievances and demands.

Comprehensive inspection

A release from SWR said the inspection at SBHR focused on improving passenger amenities, station infrastructure, and overall service quality.

Mr. Mathur also inspected the electrification work of the Sakleshpur ghat section, assessing the readiness and safety standards of the newly electrified stretch. Additionally, a window-trail inspection was done between Subrahmanya Road and Hassan, covering track conditions, signalling systems, and other operational aspects to ensure smooth and safe train movement in the section.

Mr. Mathur and Mr. Mittal interacted with passengers at SBHR, gathering feedback on facilities, services and travel experience.

SWR said the series of inspections and public interactions reflect the Railway administration’s continued commitment to strengthening infrastructure, accelerating developmental works, and enhancing passenger-centric services.
