Animal welfare volunteers have submitted a complaint to the Coimbatore District Collector on Monday, seeking the suspension of Prani Mithran, which manages the Animal Birth Control (ABC) centre at Ondipudur in the city, alleging improper sterilisation procedures, poor hygiene and inhumane treatment of animals.

In the complaint, the volunteers raised concerns over the use of unsanitary medical equipment, unhygienic conditions in kennels, neglectful feeding practices, improper handling of animals and careless relocation of dogs. They also alleged repeated violations of Animal Birth Control rules and non-compliance with prescribed procedures.

The complaint also referred to an alleged assault on V. Balakrishnan, an SPCA cruelty coordinator, during a recent inspection of the centre. He was allegedly assaulted when he visited the facility for an inspection and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Citing multiple complaints and alleged repeated violations of animal welfare regulations, the volunteers urged the Collector to suspend the NGO from operating the centre.
