DC and Warner Bros. Animation have released the first official trailer for Batman: Knightfall, a new animated trilogy adapting one of the most influential storylines in the Dark Knight’s history.
The project was unveiled at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall made its world premiere ahead of its wider release later this year.
Based on the landmark 1990s comic book crossover, the trilogy follows Bruce Wayne as he faces one of the greatest challenges of his crime-fighting career. The story begins when Bane orchestrates a massive breakout at Arkham Asylum, unleashing Gotham’s deadliest criminals and forcing Batman into a relentless battle against his entire rogues’ gallery. As exhaustion and injury mount, the Caped Crusader is gradually pushed beyond his physical and psychological limits.
The trailer highlights the arrival of Bane, the calculating mastermind whose campaign against Batman culminates in one of the most iconic moments in comic book history. It also teases the introduction of Jean-Paul Valley, better known as Azrael, whose role becomes increasingly important as the saga unfolds.
Anson Mount voices Batman and Bruce Wayne, while Michael Mando takes on the role of Bane. Pablo Schreiber rounds out the central trio as Jean-Paul Valley. The cast brings together actors known for projects including Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Better Call Saul, Halo, and Orange Is the New Black.
The trilogy is directed by Jeff Wamester from a screenplay by Jeremy Adams, both of whom have previously worked on several major DC animated productions. Rick Morales serves as supervising producer, with Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau producing.
First published in 1993, Batman: Knightfall remains one of DC’s defining Batman stories, introducing a conflict that permanently altered the Dark Knight mythos and cemented Bane as one of the hero’s greatest adversaries.
