Three people were killed and a child was injured in a head-on collision between a car and a lorry on the Karimnagar–Hyderabad highway near Muraharipalli village in Medchal in the early hours of Thursday (June 18, 2026).
The deceased have been identified as Chandrashekhar, Rekha and Nihal. The child, Lohith, sustained a fractured thigh bone and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
Police said that the family had set out from Godavarikhani on June 17, 2026 after visiting the Kondagattu temple and were en route to Hyderabad at the time of the accident. The group included the complainant Jangaon Rajashekha, his sister Jaya and her children Nikhil and Lohitha, along with his brother-in-law Chandrashekhar, his sister Rekha and her children Lohith and Nihal.
Chandrashekhar was driving the car which was reportedly moving about two kilometres ahead of another family vehicle. Around 1 a.m. near Muraharipalli village, the car collided head-on with an oncoming lorry.
Chandrashekhar died on the spot, while Rekha and Nihal succumbed to injuries after being shifted to hospital. Lohith is currently undergoing treatment.
The Medchal police registered a case and launched an investigation.
